Dr. Ramyar Mahdavi, MD

Interventional Pulmonologist

Dr. Ramyar Mahdavi is a pioneer in interventional pulmonology in Los Angeles. Before starting his private practice he established and directed the interventional pulmonology program at Keck Hospital of USC and served as the program director for the interventional pulmonology fellowship. He was also an associate professor of clinical medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine.

After completing his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, Dr. Ramyar Mahdavi further honed his expertise with an interventional pulmonology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. He is board-certified in interventional pulmonology, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine.

Dr. Ramyar Mahdavi specializes in treating airway diseases, including managing airway obstructions, placing airway stents, and utilizing endobronchial valves for severe emphysema. He is also highly skilled in diagnosing and staging lung cancer, performing robotic bronchoscopy, and placing tunneled pleural catheters for recurrent pleural effusions.

With nearly 30 years of medical experience, Dr. Ramyar Mahdavi provides care for adults ages 18 and older, focusing on conditions such as airway diseases, severe emphysema, lung cancer, and pleural effusions (water around the lungs). Originally from Iran, Dr. Mahdavi is fluent in English and Farsi. In his free time, he enjoys piloting single-engine airplanes, snow skiing, playing tennis, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.
